Esmaltes da Kelly Marvel & DC Comics Collection Review: DC Comics

Hello beauties!

Well, this post was a long time in the making. During the Fall, I got hooked on Instagram, and started seeing tons of swatches for this collection. Just in the past few months, I opened my eyes to the wonderful world of indie brands, and this was my second venture. I've really become a fan of these by Esmaltes da Kelly, and comes up with some really beautiful, fun polishes. This is a huge, two-part collection dedicated to the characters from Marvel and DC Comics. Each part includes 10 polishes each, bringing the total to a whopping 20. So needless to say, this took me a little while to obtain the entire collection.

At first, my intention was to just collect a few from my favorite characters for the novelty, but I loved the polishes that I bought so much, and all those gorgeous swatches on Instagram made me want more. Before I knew it, I was collecting more and more as time went on. I finally finished these off when my dad bought me the remaining polishes for my birthday. So now, I can happily present to you my review for this collection in two parts.

Here is part one, the DC Comics Collection:

Let's start with my favorite DC superhero! Batman has a clear base with very fine microshimmer, silver, and what looks like very dark grey or black glitter pieces that kind of help tone it down a bit, and prevent it from being just another silver holo glitter polish. It looks just a tad darker, which makes it unique to what I already have. Formula-wise, this  was a little tricky on the first coat. I had to kind of float the first coat to get the glitter to cover, but once I did, it was great. This one has great coverage overall. I used 2 coats here, plus top coat. All of these polishes dry to a textures finish.

Meow! Here comes Cat Woman, a lovely pink polish with magenta glitter. It was like raspberries and cream. It had a very nice formula. Very easy to work with, and was opaque in two coats. Didn't get a lot of sparkle with this polish, but it was nice nonetheless.

Next, we have Green Lantern, which has a green base with green, white and black glitter. It was so densely packed that it was almost a one coater, because the base has great coverage. I liked the formula for this one. In the end, I did 2 coats for the photo below.

You can't have a DC collection without this guy. This is Joker, and it is a lovely purple-based polish with white, black, and purple holo glitter. This, again, was a nice formula. I used two coats here.

More purple! You know I LOVE purple. This one is called Penguin, and it has a lilac base with with purple and small holo glitter. It had a very nice formula, and I actually got these done in one coat! The only downside was that I didn't get a lot of shimmer with this polish. Still, it's pretty.

This next one is Riddler. It is a minty green-based polish packed with green and holo glitters. This one, on sight, was already a fave. I definitely see me using this as a base for St. Patrick's Day nail art. The formula on this one was a little touchy. I had to be very careful not to flood my cuticles, and it was a little patchy. I was able to get this opaque for the most part in two coats, but there was one nail I had to do a third coat on. Not a big deal, because unlike the previous polishes, this one did have a nice sparkle to it. I still love how it looks. I recommend it, but just be aware that it can be a touch runny.

You can't have Batman without his loyal sidekick, Robin! This polish has a clear base packed with lots of green and holo glittery goodness. I want to say that it has just a touch of blue in it, because, it certainly isn't a a plain green color. The base has lots of microshimmer, and I was able to get this opaque in two coats. The formula was good. No issues.

Well, I have already worn this one before in one of my birthday manicures. This is Super Man. I'm not such a big fan of the comic book, but I am a big fan of this polish! It is so pretty. It has a deeply pigmented blue base with blue and holo glitter. It is very densely packed with great coverage. The formula for this one was great, and easy to work with. It was opaque in two coats.

Here comes my favorite of the DC half of the collection. This is The Flash. It has a yellow base with yellow, green, and bits of red glitter. This sparkles like crazy. It's absolutely beautiful, and the color combination of the glitter makes it something that just is above and beyond the rest of the other polishes. I cannot stress how much I love this polish! The formula was great, and it was opaque in two coats.

Last one up for this collection is Wonder Woman. This one has a red base with red, purple, and what looks like orange and holo glitter. The formula was good, and easy to work with. It's absolutely beautiful. I used two coats here. The glitter distribution was great, and again, with the color combo, this makes the polish take on an interesting hue as opposed to a basic bright red glitter polish.

Overall, I really love this portion of the collection. The Flash was my absolute favorite, hands down. The only one that fell flat for me was Penguin, just because it barely had any sparkle to it. Lovely color, but it wasn't what I'd hoped it would be. Still, I like it, and it has nail art base potential. These polishes are still available at and So check them out!

I'll be back again with the Marvel half of the collection soon.
